Stable climate for dairy cattle
Better stable climate brings:
- better animal health.
- savings on veterinary costs.
- better milk quality.
- more milk.
Multiple profits, very profitable!
A stable climate is good when...
- the amount of fresh air is sufficient.
- the air humidity is okay.
- the temperature is okay.
A dairy cow suffers from heat and sultriness much earlier than a human being.
Studies have shown:
- The heat stress for a dairy cow begins at around 17 to 20°C.
- Even with the most modern stable, which is open everywhere, the air exchange in summer is not sufficient to create
enough cooling!
- Lower fertility performance.
- Generally poorer health of the cow.
- Rising veterinary costs.
- From May to October, about 10% losses in milk quantity and milk quality can be observed.
- Many measures against heat stress (thermal stress) are insufficient because there is a lack of knowledge about
what is important and because
it is underestimated.
Solutions
- The temperature must be observed.
- The air humidity has an influence
(sultriness / THI (temperature-humidity-index)
- Ventilators are useful.
- The warmer it is, the less cooling is achieved by fans because the air can absorb less heat.
- Above a certain temperature, sufficient cooling can only be achieved if water is also used: The animal shower.
- Only the right combination of fans and animal showers brings success.
Measures
Fans and cow shower are always automatically used appropriately if you use a suitable control system.
